Step 1: Research & Choosing an Agency (1–2 months)
The journey often begins with research. Intended parents explore whether surrogacy is the right path, while potential surrogates consider if they meet requirements and feel ready. During this stage, families meet with organizations like Cove to ask questions, learn about costs, and decide on the right partner for their journey.
Step 2: Screening & Application (1–3 months)
Once you’ve chosen an agency, both surrogates and intended parents complete screenings. These include medical evaluations, background checks, psychological assessments, and detailed questionnaires. While this step takes time, it’s essential to ensure that everyone is ready and aligned for the journey ahead.
Step 3: Matching (1–3 months)
This is where the magic begins. Agencies work to thoughtfully match intended parents with surrogates based on preferences, values, and compatibility. Once a potential match is identified, both parties have the chance to meet (virtually or in person) before moving forward.
Step 4: Legal Agreements (1–2 months)
After a match is confirmed, attorneys draft contracts outlining roles, responsibilities, compensation, and expectations. These agreements are designed to protect both surrogates and intended parents. Every party has independent legal representation to ensure clarity and fairness.
Step 5: Medical Preparation & Embryo Transfer (1–2 months)

A pregnancy test about 10–14 days later confirms if the transfer was successful.
